The Stars announced Friday morning that Brenden Morrow will take over as team captain.

Morrow will take the place of Mike Modano, who was named captain in 2003 when Derian Hatcher left the team in free agency. The decision was made by the coaching staff and front office.

Mo was never comfortable in the role of captain, so I'm thinking this is a good move. Two-time All-Star defenseman Darryl Sydor returned to the Dallas Stars on Sunday when he was acquired from the Tampa Bay Lightning for a future draft pick.

Sydor's acquisition came on the same day the Stars lost free agent center Jason Arnott, who signed a five-year contract with Nashville. Arnott had a career-high 76 points for Dallas last season.

DALLAS (AP) -- The slumping New York Islanders traded defenseman Janne Niinimaa and a fifth-round pick in next year's draft to the Dallas Stars on Tuesday for defenseman John Erskine and a second-round choice in the draft this year.


Erskine's play was improving a little, but I think Niinimaa is a really solid player. Great for the Stars.
